About This Organization: The Arts Council for the South Shuswap was formed in January of 2015 to act as an umbrella organization for all arts & cultural related groups in the South Shuswap. It is a registered non-profit society in the Province of BC, holding a charitable taxation number. Currently, the council oversees the following community arts and cultural groups:
SSCT - South Shuswap Children's Theatre - This theatre troupe offers theatre instruction and some backstage training in set design, backdrops and props to children aged 6 to 15. After rehearsing for five months, the theatre troupe presents a full scale production each Spring to the general public.
FACES - Fine Arts Community Explorations in the Shuswap - Formerly a self-owned business in the community, FACES is now part a non-profit committee under the new arts council. FACES offers general programming to children and adults in dance, art, music and some theatre.
MUSIC IN THE BAY - A series of weekly summer waterfront concerts every Thursday evening at 6:30 on Centennial Field.
SHUSWAP ARTISAN MARKET - In 2015, the Council took over the Shuswap Lake Festival of the Arts and changed up the format to assist the start-up of the Shuswap Artisan Market, located next to Steamers in Sorrento (Notch Hill Road). Over $180,000 has gone back to local artists since its opening.
SMALL HALL MUSIC CRAWL - This crawl is held over two weekends in February and is hosted at Sunnybrae Community Hal and the Carlin Hall Community Arts and Cultural Centre. Featuring great Canadian acts on tour in our region, the crawl takes place over four evenings.
SOUTH SHUSWAP CHILDREN'S CHOIR - Now under the direction of Ms. Kate McKie, the Children's Choir welcomes children aged 9 to 13 to come to the FACES studio on a weekly basis to experience the joy of singing. Registration is through the FACES site at shuswaparts.com No audition necessary.
