South Shuswap Visitor Information Kiosks Modernized Through REDIP Project

South Shuswap Visitor Information Kiosks Receive a Fresh New Look

The South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the completion of the first phase of a major tourism enhancement project made possible through funding from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).

The project focused on modernizing and refreshing the South Shuswap’s network of Visitor Information Kiosks, creating a more attractive, informative, and accessible experience for residents and visitors exploring our region.

Modernizing Visitor Information

One of the most significant improvements introduced through this project is the transition from traditional brochure racks to digital visitor resources.

For many years, visitor kiosks relied heavily on printed brochures that were often vulnerable to weather damage, quickly became outdated, required ongoing maintenance, and generated significant printing costs. Today’s travelers increasingly rely on mobile devices to plan and explore destinations, making digital access to information more important than ever.

The new kiosks feature QR codes that allow visitors to instantly access up-to-date information about accommodations, restaurants, local businesses, attractions, parks, beaches, trails, events, and tourism resources throughout the South Shuswap.

This modern approach provides visitors with access to more information than could ever be displayed in a traditional brochure rack while allowing content to be updated in real time.

Honouring Place and Culture

A key feature of the refreshed kiosks is the addition of a dedicated Land Acknowledgement panel.

The panel includes custom pictographs created by visual artist Otto Pfannschmidt, helping to recognize and honour the cultural significance, history, and stewardship of the lands that make up the South Shuswap.

The South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce worked closely with Kari Wilkinson, Creative Designer and Owner of Toliver Advertising & Design Inc., to develop the visual concept and overall design of the kiosks. The result is a modern and welcoming visitor information system that reflects the character and natural beauty of our communities.

Kiosk Locations

The refreshed kiosks are located throughout the South Shuswap at:

• Sunnybrae Park
• White Lake Community Hall
• Dreamcycle Motorcycle Museum
• Balmoral Road and Blind Bay Road Intersection
• Across from Sandy Beach on Blind Bay Road
• Sorrento Plaza
• Sorrento Park
• Eagle Bay Mercantile

An additional kiosk formerly located at the intersection of Balmoral Road and Highway 1 will also receive the new panel design now that its new location has been determined.

Together, these locations create a network of visitor information points that help connect travelers with local businesses, attractions, parks, beaches, trails, accommodations, events, and services throughout the South Shuswap.

What’s Next: Phase Two of the Project

The completion of the kiosk refresh marks the successful completion of the first phase of the Chamber’s REDIP-funded tourism enhancement project.

With the physical kiosk upgrades now substantially complete, the Chamber is turning its attention to the next phase of the initiative. This phase will focus on the development of new digital tourism assets and continued enhancements to the South Shuswap Chamber website.

The Chamber is also actively updating and expanding the South Shuswap Calendar of Events. Working with community organizations, event organizers, non-profits, local governments, and businesses, we are building a comprehensive and current calendar that helps residents and visitors discover everything happening throughout the region.

The Calendar of Events is available through both the South Shuswap Chamber website and the Do the Shu tourism website, creating a centralized resource for festivals, markets, concerts, community celebrations, sporting events, recreational activities, and tourism experiences across the South Shuswap.

Supporting Tourism and Local Business

The South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce believes that strong tourism infrastructure benefits the entire community. By combining modern visitor kiosks, digital resources, and improved online information, we are helping visitors discover local businesses while encouraging them to stay longer and explore more of the region.

As the Chamber continues to expand its tourism and economic development initiatives, local businesses are invited to become part of the organization. Membership is open year-round and offers opportunities for business promotion, networking, advocacy, community involvement, and participation in initiatives that help strengthen the South Shuswap economy.

Whether you are a long-established business or a new entrepreneur serving our region, we welcome your participation. For information about Chamber membership and member benefits, please visit our Membership page or contact the Chamber directly.

The South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce extends its sincere thanks to REDIP, project partners, volunteers, local businesses, and community organizations whose support helped bring this project to life.

Together, we are creating a more connected, welcoming, and modern visitor experience while showcasing everything that makes the South Shuswap such a remarkable place to live, work, and explore.
